Good cruises get booked
a long way in advance so we do recommend early booking to avoid disappointment,
and indeed this is generally rewarded with an early booking discount.
We work with a broad range of expedition and adventure cruise companies
operating in the Southern Ocean.
However,
a personal favourite with International Tours & Travel Limited
is the Minerva. Minerva looks and feels like
a country house hotel and was designed with passenger comfort in
mind. But there’s strong steel (including an ice-strengthened
hull) behind the graceful exterior. Bow and stern thrusters make
her extraordinarily manoeuvrable, and stabilizers minimalize the
effects of wind and water to help keep passengers comfortable in
remote seas. Carrying a maximum of 199 passengers on Antarctic cruises,
her size means she can access places that larger ships cannot reach.
We also recommend the ice-strengthened adventure
and expeditions ships operated by Quark Expeditions which give exclusive
access to the peninsula’s nooks and crannies. Ranging in size
from passengers capacity of just 49 to 110, these ships pride themselves
on providing the ultimate experience, and whilst always comfortable
the emphasis is on adventure and not luxury. In their own words
they “offer exhilarating Zodiac rides, not silk sheets and
chandeliers” and they “are good at whale spotting but
hopeless at ballroom dancing”.
However it is not just the ship that is
important, but the expedition staff and lecturers who accompany
you on your voyage of discovery are a real point of pride for both
operators as well. On each departure passengers are accompanied
by a number of accomplished and respected geologists, zoologists,
historians and ornithologists who will enhance your experience.
